About
Cluix is a brand focused on water quality testing solutions. Their IoT device allows users to test water quality using various parameters. The challenge was to design an intuitive UI for an unconventional device format, ensuring usability across officials, researchers, and general users.
Understanding the Problem
Limited Competitors, No Standard UI
Since IoT water testing devices are a niche market, I had very few competitors to analyze. I focused on general IoT UI patterns and scientific measuring device interfaces to understand best practices.
Device Constraints
The device had an unconventional screen size meaning standard UI grids wouldn’t work.
I had no physical access to the device, so I had to rely on assumptions and developer feedback.
Needed to balance scientific accuracy with a user friendly experience.
Key Design Considerations
Grid system– Designed a custom layout based on different screen resolutions.
Brand & Accessibility – Ensured the UI aligned with Cluix’s identity while maintaining contrast, readability and accessibility
Design Process
Competitive Analysis & UI Research
Researched scientific measuring devices and IoT dashboard UIs, identifying common data interaction patterns.

Creating a Custom Grid & Layout
Analyzed screen resolutions of similar devices to create a versatile grid and designed adaptable UI components.

Visual Design & Brand Alignment
Conducted 2-4 iterations on colors, typography, and iconography, ensuring readability while preserving brand consistency.

Collaboration & Testing Without the Physical Device
Conducted online meetings and developer collaboration to test designs, adjusting the UI based on simulations and real-device feedback.

Research & Process
Outcome
Designed a user-friendly UI for a niche IoT water testing device, overcoming hardware constraints with a custom guideline system and improving usability and accessibility for all user types. 🚀
